Feast Days? or 3 Angels Message?

The message for the last days has everything to do with the “10 Commandments” and not the keeping of the feasts.  I know that this is close to the heart of those who keep the feast and I do not want to wound those or hurt their feelings in any way but from my perspective it does not carry the importance of the “10 Commandments” and I believe it is a distraction for the major work that lays before us.

That work is dealing with self and getting our characters in harmony with 10 Commandments which are the Character of God.  The feast days are not.  I know those who keep the feast days look at this differently but for me and the others who study the 3 Angels Message the message for the last days is not the feast days it is the 3 Angels Message, and I know that they will say that the keeping of the feast days are part of that message, but we will not agree.  This topic is a recurring topic and hence the purpose of this study.  When  I first encountered this understanding I looked at it, and when I concluded my study it was plainly seen that this is not to be our focus, but the messages that brought us out of the churches from 1840-44 are to be focused upon, the “Prophecies and Health Message”.   The feast days were not a part of the focus then and will not be part of our focus now.

As long as our High Priest who is Christ is in Heaven in the Most Holy Place we are in the time of the Atonement which we both agree upon.  Where we disagree is the keeping of the other feast days. I do not expect to sway those who keep the feast days, for those who do keep them are not easily swayed.  My points are as follows;

1. Before the Cross Literal after the Cross Spiritual.  This application is easily proven with the cross.  Meaning the moment Christ died on the cross the dispensation changed (symbolized by the angel tearing the temple veil from top to bottom ).  When Christ went to Heaven the whole process changed from a literal to a spiritual process.

a. To explain: In Daniel 9 we are told in the midst of the week our Lord would be crucified. Christ on earth was the literal fulfillment of God on earth. He fully and completely reflected the character of God. He walked amongst us. It was the time of the visitation for the Jews and the world. The embodiment of what the feast days were pointing toward. The literal keeping of the feast days was designed to reveal this to them and the priests/scholars those who were learned knew this. They knew it but denied it. When Christ died and that veil was rent the whole ball game changed. This was proven in the death of Stephen. In Acts chapter 7 interesting that it is chapter 7 he recites the story of Abraham. He reminded them of their past we are to remind first our Brethren and then the world of our past we are to know our History. Further as he recited the story of Israel, Stephen who was filled with the Holy Spirit saw Christ in judgment on the right side of God. Revealing several points;

b. A judgment had taken place.

c. That the dispensation had changed. Christ was no longer in direct communication with Israel that it is now the work of the Holy Spirit (John 16).

d. That it has now become a Spiritual battle and the focus was to be on Christ in Heaven, this is exactly what the Holy Spirit does. He lifts out hearts up to heaven. Anything that brings are minds back to earth and the literal keeping of the feast days does this has to be abandon for our minds are no longer lifted up to Heaven but to the earthly practice that was pointing toward that event which has now transpired. I know you think differently here but the reality is you go through the motions of a feast with our High Priest doing another work completely and whether you see it or not you are not focused on that but doing an actual work to perfect your character through the literal keeping of a feast day and thus it becomes a work that was designed for the Jews along with the sacrifices to perfect their characters. Ours is different in that we are to submit to the direction of the Holy Spirit and to allow this change to take place. To work in harmony with the Holy Spirit to change our lives and characters and this is done by keeping focused upon Christ and His work in the Most Holy Place.

e.  Did the children of Israel celebrate the “Feast of Tabernacles” while they were in the time of the “Atonement”. It would have been sacrilegious, and outright blasphemous for them to do so. Now all of a sudden it is different? Here our High Priest is doing a mighty work in our behalf and we celebrate the “Feast of Tabernacles”.  Our excuse is well we want people to think of what is going on in Heaven. It sounds really nice but we are in the time of the Atonement. This is the reality, this is the truth. In the time of the Atonement we are to afflict our souls and prepare them to enter into Heaven so that we can literally experience “The Feast of Tabernacles” when Jesus takes us home. Should we know and understand what the “Feast of Tabernacles” is all about yes, a 100 times yes, to celebrate it while our Lord is working on our behalf, no, a 100 times no.

2. In this point we agree, and that is the fact that we are in the time of the Atonement.  The High Priest who is Christ has His complete focus on this work.  Preparing His Children for their return home and to deal with the sin that is in our Lives and preparing for the cleansing of the Sanctuary.

a. The preparation of the cleansing of that Sanctuary has everything to do with bringing His children to understand the prophetic message for these last days.  The Alpha and the Omega is revealing the past and providing us the knowledge to prepare us to stand in the last days.  That Past deals with the prophetic lines of history that will be replayed in these last days. It is this what our Lord uses to cleanse us and fulfill His promise of the New Covenant where His Law is written upon our Hearts and minds. This is done as it was done by Stephen by understanding the past to explain it to our Brothers and Sisters first. As we know who we are as did Stephen we will be filled with the Holy Spirit, thereby the mystery of God will be fulfilled in us and not the mystery of iniquity.

b. From my perspective, just to say “IF” we were to keep the other feast days how can we do so when our High Priest is actively engaged in the Atonement? Did Israel celebrate the Passover at the same time they celebrated the feast of tabernacles or any of the others simultaneously?  It is now, Christ who is our High Priest and no earthly man can fill this position that is what the book of Hebrews clearly points out.  He is not here on earth.  In order for the other Feasts to be performed correctly there had to be a sacrifice and a High Priest to fulfill that process. That is no longer possible.  How can Christ officiate any other feast while He is doing the work of the Atonement?  It is not possible.  It was not possible then and not now.  Even more so now in lieu of the importance of this work.

c. For example when those who claim that the Daily which is paganism is “The Daily Sacrifice” of Christ in reference to His ministration which is now in the “Most Holy Place” they are arrogating that which has been stated by God to be something entirely different and in this way have spiritualized a Satanic work and made it a heavenly one.  In so doing they have blasphemed the name of God by usurping the work He is doing.  Why say this?  I want to explain my position and pray reveal to you and those who keep the feast days what they are doing when our Lord is doing a different work in the Most Holy Place.  When you celebrate the Passover and the embodiment of that Passover was Christ who is no longer on earth but now doing the Atonement in Heaven those who keep the feast days and encourage others to do the same are arrogating the work that our Lord is presently doing.   Even though the intent is done from a heart wanting to do the right thing and I believe that is your intent and most that are keeping the feast days, it is when the truth has been revealed to them and they continue to do this that they now arrogate the work of Christ and the work of the Atonement.  The full focus should be on the work of the Atonement.  Anything else is confusion and misdirection.

d. Therefore it is an affront to Christ to celebrate any other Feast Day when He is doing this most important work, we should be lending all of our energy in confessing our sins and preparing our hearts prior to His return.  To participate and to actively bring about the other feast days as if Christ were here when He is doing another work is arrogance and a selfish interpretation of what we should be doing.  To celebrate any other feast day is flat out wrong and by continuing in this action it is blasphemous.  It is like saying to our Lord, you know Lord I know that what you are doing buys us time but while you are doing this work if you do not mind we are going to do celebrate another feast now.  Feast of trumpets or any of the others it is just flat out wrong and in essence negating this important work.  Should we understand them?  Yes, should we know what they mean?  Yes, but should we celebrate them?  NO!  Emphatically NO!

e. That you want to do so is your choice, but you continue to bring your points up in our class which, since it is already a settled subject with the class attendees. This is a recurring theme on your part and thus a distraction from the ongoing study.  Since we have covered this in class some time ago and have agreed that this is not our focus.  We have far too much on our plates to burden others with the keeping of these feast days at this time in History.  Should we understand their importance and what they mean in scripture, yes.  But to be keeping them at this time in Sacred History is an insult to our High Priest as He does the Mighty Work of the Atonement in our behalf in Heaven.

3. When Moses was writing out the books of Genesis, Job, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers did he know he was writing out the Torah?  When Moses was referencing the Law in Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, & Numbers was he referencing the Torah or the Commandments?  He was consistently referencing the Commandments of God.   That was Moses experience.  While he was recording these things for the Children of Israel.  He was making a record, and that record as a whole became what is today called the Torah.  Moses, when he wrote this record realized it was a record,  but remember, this record was kept not inside the ark with the Commandments of God but on the outside of the Arc of the Covenant.  What was kept on the inside? The staff, the manna and the Commandments, denoting their importance.  The Commandments, Manna and Staff are eternal.

4. The Sanctuary and its associated Feasts were designed to bring the children of Israel to think of Christ and what was going to happen to Him and the promise of the future.  When Jesus Christ was crucified and all those laws pertaining to the Sanctuary and Feasts were fulfilled the new dispensation arrived and then the literal keeping of the Feasts Days changed. As Christ our High Priest is now in Heaven we are now to focus on the Heavenly Sanctuary. When we keep the Feast Days here on this world our focus is not brought to Heaven but back to Earth and this should not be so. Why? Firstly because of the nature of man. Man will by his nature focus on the earthly instead of the spiritual. The feasts will become an earthly tradition and over time man will seek a literal fulfillment of them to once again bring sacrificial offerings. In other words to do the sacrifice and the building of the Sanctuary having a High Priest to officiate and so on. It is our nature and it will happen. When in scripture Christ points us to a new way of thinking. Our Lord has impressed me that I need to provide some additional evidence for you in this from scripture. In John 16 we have these verses. John 16:7-16  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  (8)  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  (9)  Of sin, because they believe not on me;  (10)  Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Here, this new way of thinking is clearly pointed out. As long as the Sanctuary was on earth the Feast Days were part of that Literal fulfillment of God on Earth. When Christ points out to the future work “Because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more” He was revealing to them the new dispensation, the spiritual the work of the Holy Spirit. When we focus on keeping the feast days we are looking for an earthly  fulfillment and are rejecting the ministration of the Holy Spirit. Our Faith is to be based no longer  on the literal keeping of the feasts and those actions that are associated with the Sanctuary service but now on the Spiritual and our Lords work as our High Priest in Heaven and that of the Holy Spirit that brings us into the understanding of His Word. As you point out that the Feast Days are part of the Torah well so are the sacrifices. To repeat the moment Christ Died on the Cross this dispensation of the Feasts and the Sacrifices associated with them changed from a Literal to a spiritual – the literal keeping of the Feasts are directly linked to the sacrifices. We are to reveal our Faith by believing our High Priest is no longer here on Earth but in Heaven. That He is in the Most Holy Place and we are now in the time of the Atonement. When we celebrate the Feast Days we are denying this reality (that we are in the time of the Atonement) and trying to bring something back into our experience that has passed out of it as Christ Died on the cross and the new dispensation of His work started in Heaven. This is to be our sole focus and is a reflection of our Faith in Him and what He is doing in our behalf to do otherwise is to deny Him. Even though the keeping of the feast days when done with an honest heart is sincere it does not take away from what is being stated here. Once this reality is understood a change must take place.

5. This is the final point.  The Arc of the Covenant is representative of us individually.  We each are a type of arc.  That Law which is to be written upon our hearts as stated in Jeremiah 31:33, Hebrews 8:10 and 10:16 are the commandments of God, the Manna representing the words of Christ are to help us understand the Law which we are to keep for eternity and not the feast days.  The Staff represents His dominion over us. Remember the Laws of Moses hung on the outside of the arc, they were not to be internalized. The law of God as it is written upon our hearts is what is to be internalized. The Word represented by the Manna (who is Christ) will forever be our sustenance and the Rod His ruler ship over us will guide us for eternity. The rod that blossomed as our lives will blossom under His direction.

6. The SOP is plain that we have no new message, that the message from 1840-44 is our message for today.  There is not one, not one bit of historical reference that our brothers and sisters kept the feast days while this message was being shared.  Their complete focus was the message that brought them out of the Churches and that is to be our complete focus. We are to be like Stephen to be able to recite our His-story and the only way we can do that is to go back in our History and learn it.

7. The SOP states over and over again we are in the Day of Atonement.

God Bless

    Malachi 4:4-6 makes it clear. All your many words are without any weight…try using the Bible to defend your opinion on the Feasts, you will be defeated. By the way the statues are in the Most Holy Place. You choose to keep some of the statutes but only those you deem easy or worthy to support the church. I have yet to hear anyone defeat the purpose of statue keeping (the feast), by using the Bible, or EGW.

      Dear Brother Siver

      Our position is that the feast days are not to be kept. In scripture please show us where you are allowed to keep the Passover at the same time you keep the Atonement? In the book of Hebrews it is quite clear please note:

      Heb_2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
      Heb_3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
      Heb_4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

      So we see by these quotes that our High Priest is Jesus Christ and He is now in the Most Holy Place. We also know that the veil in the Temple was rent indicating that the work of the earthly Temple has been changed to the Heavenly;
      Luk 23:45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

      Which is also confirmed by the above verses. Hence the statement given. In order for any of the feasts to be celebrated it requires the High Priest. Our High Priest is in Heaven and not on Earth and He the Holy Spirit that works among us now please note:

      Joh 16:7-11 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. (8) And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: (9) Of sin, because they believe not on me; (10) Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; (11) Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

      The work of the Holy Spirit is to bring us into a right relationship with Christ our High Priest who is in the most Holy
      Place in Heaven. We are in the time of the Atonement.

      Since our Jesus Christ is now our High Priest who is both 100% Human and 100% Divine stands before our Heavenly Father pleading His blood on our behalf we have no right to celebrate any other feast until this His mighty work is done.

      During the time of the Atonement there were no other celebrations going on it was a most solemn time. All were surrounding the Sanctuary confessing their sins waiting anxiously for the High Priest to come out of the Temple to say “It is finished” listening intently for the sound of that Bell to let them know that the High Priest was still alive.

      Notice the following quote from the SOP:
      In 1844 our great High Priest entered the most holy place of the heavenly Sanctuary, to begin the work of the investigative Judgment. The cases of the righteous dead have been passing in review before God. When that work shall be completed, judgment is to be pronounced upon the living. How precious, how important are these solemn moments! Each of us has a case pending in the court of heaven. We are individually to be judged according to the deeds done in the body. In the typical service, when the work of atonement was performed by the high priest in the most holy place of the earthly sanctuary, the people were required to afflict their souls before God, and confess their sins, that they might be atoned for and blotted out. Will any less be required of us in this antitypical day of atonement, when Christ in the Sanctuary above is pleading in behalf of his people, and the final, irrevocable decision is to be pronounced upon every case? {RH, March 22, 1887 par. 9}

      At present our High Priest is in the Most Holy Place we would do well to heed the advice given above. To participate in any other feast day when our Lord who died for us to grant us eternal life with Him in Heaven is arrogating the work He is doing. It is doing what you want to do and not being obedient to the requirements set forth in the types and anti-types given to us in Scripture.

      There will be a time when we celebrate the “Feast of Tabernacles” and that will be in Heaven. Should we know and understand what the “feast days” mean. Yes. Should we once again enact that which was leading to the Cross? No a thousand times no! Our High Priest is in Heaven and not on earth, He is in the Most Holy Place in Heaven and not on earth.

      If it is your desire to do so that is your choice, but it makes no less correct. As you celebrate the “Feast of Tabernacles” can our High Priest join with you when He is interceding on your behalf? Can He? In fact if you believe He can that is a type of spiritualism. Saying Christ is with you while you celebrate another feast when He is in the Most Holy Place interceding on our behalf.

      Let us make it more personal, it is your Birthday but you have to work, in fact you have to work for 24 hours. So your wife calls you up and your family calls you up and goes to your home and they have a wonderful party without you. They tell you how much fun they are having and wish you were there. Here is the real kicker you are the bread winner, the party, well you paid for it all and oh yes when you get home you get to clean up the mess and just to make it even better you had to pay for the trips of your family members that came, your presents that they bought for you with your money well they opened them for you as well. Presents that you paid for, you covered every single cost. How is that? You may say that is not a fair comparison. Really!

      Jesus died for you, He is now interceding for you, you (all of us) have made mess of this world and He is trying to clean us up and the world at the same time. The problem is this if we do not join in on the program He is going to clean it all up either we can be part of the cleaning crew or be that which is throne out. He will have no choice but to remove those who do not join in on the process of cleaning.

      Brother Siver, there is a work for us to do. We do not have the time to be focusing on any other work but that which we are called to do during the time of the Atonement, that is cleansing the soul temple of sin. That is now. The judgment is in process, thousands of millions are needing to hear this message. The feast days are a distraction from the real work of the 3 Angels Message.

      I realize that this may have stung a bit, know this, it was not done with vehemence or anger, just a sincere concern for you. There is a quote from the SOP I believe will explain it even further:

      “It is those who by faith follow Jesus in the great work of the atonement who receive the benefits of His mediation in their behalf, while those who reject the light which brings to view this work of ministration are not benefited thereby. The Jews who rejected the light given at Christ’s first advent, and refused to believe on Him as the Saviour of the world, could not receive pardon through Him. When Jesus at His ascension entered by His own blood into the heavenly sanctuary to shed upon His disciples the blessings of His mediation, the Jews were left in total darkness to continue their useless sacrifices and offerings. The ministration of types and shadows had ceased. That door by which men had formerly found access to God was no longer open. The Jews had refused to seek Him in the only way whereby He could then be found, through the ministration in the sanctuary in heaven. Therefore they found no communion with God. To them the door was shut. They had no knowledge of Christ as the true sacrifice and the only mediator before God; hence they could not receive the benefits of His mediation.
      “The condition of the unbelieving Jews illustrates the condition of the careless and unbelieving among professed Christians, who are willingly ignorant of the work of our merciful High Priest. In the typical service, when the high priest entered the most holy place, all Israel were required to gather about the sanctuary and in the most solemn manner humble their souls before God, that they might receive the pardon of their sins and not be cut off from the congregation. How much more essential in this antitypical Day of Atonement that we understand the work of our High Priest and know what duties are required of us.”

  2. Ralph says:

    Sorry Randy, but I agree with Siver. The Apostle Paul kept the Feasts, (with his Gentile converts) and Ellen White concurred and elaborated on that fact. Where is the condemnation of Paul for doing so? This and other obvious references to the Feasts in Scripture and in the SOP are left out of your post.
    There is also no merit to your argument that “while Christ is active in the `day of Atonement’ ” that we cannot be keeping other Feast days. What is the heavenly is the act of God, but what He gave to us here on this earth is a YEARLY pattern. In this argument you are Scripturally groundless.

    • Ussher says:

      You can agree and we can disagree. The point still remains. How is it possible to celebrate any of the feast days when our High Priest is doing the work of the Atonement?
